As part of our renovation project, the time had come to demolish the old greenhouse and start building a new one in its place. Pictures of the demolition can be seen below. You can also view a short video below which shows the first few seconds of the greenhouse being demolished by a JCB.

The new greenhouse will improve growing conditions due to the increase in floor space and the increase in vertical clearance.

Pictures of the new greenhouse will be added when construction has been completed.

This year’s Southend in Bloom Competition (www.southendinbloom.org.uk/) will be launched at the Central Library on Saturday 14th April 2012 (10.00am – 2.00pm). It forms part of the RHS Britain in Bloom campaign, a year-round initiative, which sees communities the length and breadth of the UK working to improve their local environments. Locally the In Bloom volunteer team encourages residents, community groups, schools and businesses to transform their gardens, neighbourhood or local area and so create a better town in which to live, work study and visit. MerseyRoad Allotments Kids’ Grow Days

18 Apr 2012 at Mersey Road Allotments

On Wednesday April 18 and Thursday April 19 over 100 pupils from local Infant and Junior schools with their teachers and some parents will be visiting Mersey Road Allotments in Liverpool to take part in a load of gardening activities, including sowing wild flower seeds, planting pumpkin seeds, exploring composts and testing soil samples. There will also be competitions with great gardening prizes. The children will have a guided tour of the allotments where they will no doubt be asking all kinds of searching questions. When they leave they will receive a small packet of seeds to get them growing. On Saturday April 21st there will be a Plant Swap and Sale for the general public with hundreds of plants available as well as a ‘Potato-in-a-Bag’ competition. Come and see us, we’ll make you welcome!

Heritage Garden Special Planting

Gardens of the Nation

On Tuesday, the RHS is asking garden owners all over the country to take photographs of their own gardens, to help them build a picture of the country’s domestic gardens, and become part of gardening history. To submit your photograph, email it to gardensofthenation@rhs.org.uk. The RHS Gardens will also be hosting talks and workshops to celebrate the different regions that make up our nation of gardens.

On Monday, the RHS Members’ Advisory Service will be answering any gardening questions or queries. A team of experts are at hand to help with a huge range of gardening topics from planting and propagating to pests and pruning.
